PHALL FATALE was founded in spring 2008 by drummer Fredy Studer, together with Joana Aderi, Joy Frempong, John Edwards and Daniel Sailer.
|The instrumentation is eccentric: two double-basses, two female vocalists, keyboards, electronics and drums.
The individual voices of the singers merge with strident electronic sequences into the organic powerhouse of the two double-basses and drums. Powerful hardcore packets of groove and spoken word are juxtaposed with meditative soundscapes that tell stories.
The music bridges the gap between song and improvisation, the pulse presses forward - resulting in a contemporary pop aesthetic.
PHALL FATALE played concerts in Switzerland and Germany and performed at the following festivals: Moers, Schaffhausen, Krakau, Willisau, EAR WE ARE in Biel, AVANT ART FESTIVAL in Wroclaw, ONZE + in Lausanne, TAKTLOS in Zürich and METEO in Mulhouse.
|Joana Aderi, born in Schaffhausen, is a Swiss vocalist and composer.
Her main interest lies in organic combinations of natural and electronic sounds, both in her electropop band SISSY FOX as well as in her experimental solo performance EIKO.
She has written several pieces for the concept art duo KNOWBOTIC RESEARCH and is a memeber of the Zurich multumedia crew PULP NOIR.
Joana Aderi has a Master’s degree from the NTNU jazz department Trondheim, Norway.
After many years abroad she is now living in Switzerland again.
|Joy Frempong is a vocalist/composer with a rich background in electronica, urban music, jazz & improv, and a very personal approach to electronic music.
Joy has performed & recorded with the likes of electro-dub band Filewile, hip hop combo Infinite Livez vs Stade (Big Dada) and more, and has been touring internationally with her band OY (Crammed Discs) since 2010 (Montreux Jazz, Eurockéeenes de Belfort, Paléo Nyon, SxSW, Sonar Barcelona, Jazzfestival Montréal, …)
Joy is now based in Berlin.
|John Edwards has always been involved with a wide diversity of musical styles and situations. At home with composed and improvised music he is one of the busiest musicians on the scene.
